Build the structural steel connection allowance review record
Identify whether the documents show fully designed connections, delegated design, typical details, or only design reactions. Group members by connection condition rather than applying one allowance to all steel weight.
Record the drawing and design basis for each group. Use the structural steel quote leveling as a related control, but keep this takeoff tied to its own drawing population and cost lines.
Check quantities and scope conditions
Describe the included plates, angles, bolts, welds, stiffeners, shop labor, field labor, engineering, testing, and erection effects. Keep connection material separate from base member weight so later design development can be reconciled without double counting.
AACE recommended practices provide general estimating references. The project documents and approved estimate basis control the actual quantity and scope decisions.

Reconcile the estimate before release
Compare the allowance with fabricator input when a current proposal is available. At each design release, replace supported portions with detailed cost and preserve the allowance balance for the conditions that remain undefined. Close open assignments through the estimate allowance drawdown log and preserve the decision with the estimate revision.
